18 Ruth Musser 8th graders are being recognized for their membership throughout their 7th and 8th grade years in our school’s chapter of the California Junior Scholarship Federation.

The chapter, led by co-advisors Mrs. Kristina Marshall and Mrs. Amy Roos, was started in the 19-20 school year and currently serves 48 students, including 26 7th graders and 22 8th graders.

The California Scholarship Federation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and community service among middle and high school students in California. There are approximately 1500 chapters in middle school and high schools throughout the state, and each chapter is comprised of student members who meet eligibility requirements.  The California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF), an extension of CSF, was founded to foster high standards of scholarship, service and citizenship in the middle school/junior high grades. Like CSF, CJSF emphasizes service to the school and the community while encouraging pride in scholastic achievement. (https://csf-cjsf.org/about-csf/)

In addition to meeting academic criteria, Ruth Musser’s CJSF members were required to serve five hours of community service each trimester. Students would volunteer for neighbors by mowing their lawn or gardening, while others volunteered at churches and even organized park clean-up days.
