Interdistrict Transfers

Central School District recognizes that students who reside in one district may choose to attend school in another district.  In such cases, a permit authorizing a student of either district to enroll in the other district may be issued upon approval of both districts.

Requesting a transfer into Central School District

Parents/guardians will start the process by requesting an interdistrict transfer from their district of residence.

Requesting a transfer to attend a school outside of Central School District

Parents/guardians will start the process by completing an “Application for Inter-District Attendance Permit”.  Forms are available at any school site or the district office.  Please submit completed forms to the Student and Family Engagement Division at the district office.

Approval of an Interdistrict Transfer

Once an Interdistrict Transfer has been approved, the student may continue to attend the school of enrollment without reapplying on a yearly basis.  Students will be required to reapply when matriculating to middle school/high school.

Central School District may approve Interdistrict Transfers for the following reasons:

  • To meet the childcare needs of the student, only as long as the student’s childcare provider remains within district boundaries.  The name, address, and phone number of the childcare/agency provider must be listed on the Interdistrict Attendance Permit.

  • To meet the student’s special mental or physical health needs.

Verification must be provided by a licensed physician or clinical psychologist.

  • To keep siblings together in the same district.

Verification that the sibling attends school in the desired district needs to be provided.

  • To allow the student to complete a school year when the student’s parents/guardians have moved or are planning to move out of our district.  This also applies to families who plan to, but haven’t yet, moved into the district and would like their student(s) to start the school year in our district.
Verification of escrow paperwork or similar document (90-day limit) must be provided.

  • Other:  Central School District reserves the right to contact you for other documentation to support a request listed in the “Other” category on the Application for Interdistrict Attendance Permit.

Once your student has been released from your resident district, please send a copy of the following documents to the Central School District Student and Family Engagement Office:

  • Current attendance record

  • Most recent report card

  • Discipline record

Denial of an Interdistrict Transfer

The Central School District may deny an initial Interdistrict Transfer request for the reasons listed below:

  • Limited district resources

  • Overcrowding of the school facilities/programs at the relevant grade level

  • Other non-arbitrary considerations

If an interdistrict transfer request is denied, the parent/guardian will be informed in writing of the right to appeal the decision to the County Board of Education within 30 calendar days from the date of denial.

Parents/guardians that fail to meet any timelines established by Central School District shall be deemed an abandonment of the request.
